Senate Republicans Ram Through Attacks on LGBTQ+ Rights, Voting Rights

Bills would ban transgender girls from sports, make NH voter registration system the most restrictive in the country and undermine free and fair elections.

CONCORD – Following the Senate voting to advance anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and House Bill 1569, a sweeping voter suppression bill, 603 Forward Advocacy and Engagement Director, Matt Mooshian, released the following statement:

“Senate Republicans put politics over people by advancing unpopular and unnecessary legislation attacking every Granite Staters’ right to vote. Abortion bans, attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, sweeping voter suppression – it’s clear that Republicans don’t want to put the needs of our communities first, but instead choose to wage culture wars and target the most vulnerable.

We should be able to tackle common sense issues, but by turning their backs on our ‘live free or die’ values, Republicans remain determined to advance their extreme agenda rather than tackling issues like our housing shortage or rising cost of living.

While it’s disappointing House Bill 1569 advanced, we’re grateful to Senator Carson for her vote against the bill and hope that her Republican colleagues will join her in voting against it when it returns to the Senate floor.”

Prior to the Senate vote on House Bill 1569, young locally elected and election officials joined together to speak out against this latest attempt by conservatives in the State House to silence our generation’s voice by making it harder for every Granite Stater to vote and for local election officials to do their jobs.
