Granite Staters Overwhelmingly Support Joining ERIC

Every other New England state is already a member of the interstate program used by Red and Blue states to keep voter lists clean and accurate, catch possible cases of voter fraud, and help register new voters.

CONCORD, N.H. – A recent statewide poll conducted by Saint Anselm College Survey Center highlighted significant bipartisan support among New Hampshire voters for voter list maintenance through the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC).

Key findings from the poll underscore the unity among New Hampshire voters:

  • 75% of voters believe New Hampshire should join the ERIC.

  • Significant support for ERIC spans all party affiliations: Republican (63%), undeclared, (74%), Democrat (87%). Only 12% of respondents opposed.

It is clear there is a strong consensus among Granite Staters to join the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), highlighting the importance of the bipartisan legislation filed by State Representative Angela Brennan, which would enroll our state into this program.

In response to this clear directive from the voters to move forward with membership, Representative Brennan released the following statement: "New Hampshire becoming a member of ERIC is a common-sense step to strengthen our democracy, and Granite Staters agree. That is why I'm proud of the bipartisan legislation filed this session to make it happen. We have an opportunity to take a strong step toward our shared goals of improving voter confidence, supporting local election officials, and enfranchising voters. Let’s join this bipartisan coalition of states, which includes all of our New England neighbors, and get this done in 2024."

ERIC Background:

The Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization created by and composed of state election officials from around the United States.

Founded in 2012, ERIC is funded and governed by states that choose to join.

ERIC is the most effective tool available to help election officials maintain more accurate voter rolls and detect possible illegal voting. ERIC also helps states reach out to potentially eligible but not yet registered individuals with information on how best to register to vote.

“Maintaining accurate voter rolls protects the integrity of our elections. Systems like ERIC are an important tool for election administrators and help prevent people from being registered in and trying to vote in multiple states. States that prioritize best practices and actual election integrity over politics are going to stay in ERIC and have clearer and more accurate voter rolls than those that choose to leave.” - Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R)
