Young Town and City Elected Leaders Send Letter to Secretary of State Demanding Answers on Sweeping Voter Suppression Legislation

Overhaul of traditional NH elections would make our voter registration system the most restrictive in the country, undermine free and fair elections

CONCORD – Following confusing testimony from Secretary of State Scanlan on the impacts and implementation of House Bills 1569 and 1370 at a Committee of Conference last week, 20+ local leaders from over a dozen communities across the state sent Secretary Scanlan a letter opposing the bill and continuing to seek answers to the basic questions the impact and implementation of the legislation.

The letter demonstrates strong opposition to House Bill 1569 among local elected leaders and election officials who are charged with running elections.

“As young elected leaders from towns and cities across New Hampshire, we are writing to express our deep concerns about House Bills 1569 and 1370. These bills have far-reaching implications for our communities, and we believe it is essential to thoroughly understand their potential impacts. Before the committee of conference on Wednesday, we respectfully request your presence and detailed responses to several critical questions.”

[...] As leaders who represent thousands of voters, as young leaders dedicated to fostering an inclusive and participatory democracy, we urge you to provide thorough responses to guide discussions and decision making heading into the fall.”
