Gov. Sununu Signs Sweeping Voter Suppression Bill into Law
NH voter registration system becomes most restrictive in the country, undermining free and fair elections
CONCORD – Despite bipartisan opposition and months of outreach from local election officials and voting rights advocates to veto the bill, Governor Sununu signed House Bill 1569 into law. In response, 603 Forward Advocacy and Engagement Director, Matt Mooshian, released the following statement:
“Government should protect our freedoms, not take them away. The Governor just made New Hampshire’s voter registration system one of the most restrictive in the country, threatening every Granite Stater's fundamental right to vote,” Mooshian said. “Even if this legislation doesn’t go into effect until 2025, it will cause confusion for voters and election officials alike.
Democracy thrives when every eligible citizen can participate in our elections without politicians interfering with their rights. 603 Forward remains dedicated to advancing policies that enhance democratic participation and ensure that every eligible Granite Stater can exercise their right to vote freely and without undue barriers.”
603 Forward envisions a thriving New Hampshire where people are free to live, work and raise a family. In our New Hampshire: democracy is protected above all else; young people have a voice in government at all levels; and policy changes to help build an inclusive, affordable and resilient state.
