These smaller 1-to-2 bedroom homes in backyards or above garages are more likely to be affordable due to their size and are often close to schools, jobs, and amenities. We support this legislation because creating more diverse and differently sized home types helps meet the needs of our changing communities by providing more affordable and appropriately sized homes for people at all stages of life. HB 1400 - relative to the required maximum number of residential parking spaces
Parking mandates limit the rights of property owners to determine how best to use their land, often leading to increased development costs and additional obstacles to progress. Removing parking mandates means a property owner can assess their need for parking, determine how many spots should be built, where they should go, and what (if anything) should be charged for using that space—without interference from the government.
